Microsoft Visual Basic

Microsoft Visual Basic also unofficially known as Classic VB is a discontinued event-driven BASIC language and IDE successed by syntactically incompatible Visual Basic .NET. There are also VBA and VBScript that are syntactically similar to the Classic Visual Basic, but they perform differently. The last version, Visual Basic 6, was released in 1998. Microsoft will support the runtime of Visual Basic 6 executables until the end of lifetime of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 within those operating systems (mainstream support until 2013, extended support until 2018). There is an ongoing petition to continue supporting Classic VB.
